Porsche Cup Thruxton 30/04/2007

Thruxton next for Caine and Paragon

The fastest track on the schedule is the next destination for Michael Caine as the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB switches to Thruxton this weekend (5/6 May) for the fifth and sixth rounds of the championship.

Caine is racing for Sussex-based Paragon Porsche this season and has scored podium finishes in three of the opening four races of the season. He now lies a close third in the overall points and wants to go even better at the high-speed Hampshire track, where the Porsches are averaging around 110mph.

Caine, from Newmarket, is competing for Team Parker Racing and returns to the Carrera Cup after making his debut at the wheel of a classic sportscar at Brands Hatch over the weekend (28/29 April).  "After racing the classic Lotus Elan, my Porsche will feel fantastic this weekend," joked Caine. "We need to take a gamble in qualifying," he says of Thruxton. "We can run in the top five, but we need to run number one.

Everyone is working very hard at it," he says.  After qualifying on Saturday morning, the opening Carrera Cup race will run on Saturday afternoon, followed by another race at 3.25pm on Sunday.

All of Sunday's action will be broadcast live on the Setanta satellite TV channel and Carrera Cup highlights will be shown on ITV1 in the near future (times to be confirmed).
