Paragon Porsche lines up for Carrera Cup

The 2006 Paragon Porsche racing team was unveiled at Silverstone yesterday (14 March), during the annual pre-season test and media day for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

The Paragon team is entering a brand new 997-model 911GT3 Cup car in the prestigious championship for Maidstone-based Andy Purdie. At 21-years old, Andy is one of the rising stars of the championship, although the culmination of his university exams in the spring will force him to miss two race weekends. So, for the race weekends at Mondello Park (April) and Oulton Park (May), Mark Sumpter will take over driving the 400bhp thoroughbred racer.

The team, managed by seasoned race engineer Roger Heavens, spent a productive day testing at Silverstone and ended the day with some respectable times against a field packed with very experienced racers.  "The competition in Carrera Cup is incredibly high this year," reported Sumpter, who also drove the car at Silverstone. "We're working through a test and development programme at the moment and we're learning all the time."

With other support from Revo and Porsche & 911 World, the Paragon car will be out testing again in the coming weeks as the team prepares for the opening races of the season at its home track of Brands Hatch (Kent) on 8/9 April. The Carrera Cup GB is a leading support race to the British Touring Car Championship.
