Porsche Cup Brands Hatch 26/03/2007

Caine and Paragon ready for season start

Michael Caine will open his 2007 racing campaign for Paragon Porsche in the first two races of the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch this weekend (31 March/1 April).

Caine, from Newmarket, finished sixth in his debut Carrera Cup season last year, and is confident that the support of Sussex-based Paragon Porsche will help him mount a serious challenge for the title.

He is heading the three-car team from Team Parker Racing, and goes into the new season knowing that he is racing for the team that took Damien Faulkner to the last two Carrera Cup titles.

The opening two races will run in support of the British Touring Car Championship on the 1.2-mile Indy circuit at Brands and are sure to get the season off to an exciting start.  Michael has plenty of opposition, not least from within his own team as former BTCC racer Rob Collard was recently confirmed as one of the other Team Parker drivers.

With more former BTCC racers in Tim Harvey and James Pickford and former single-seater racers like Steven Kane and James Sutton also on the grid, the competition will be fierce from the start.

After qualifying on Saturday morning, the opening Carrera Cup race will run on Saturday afternoon, followed by another race at 2.50pm on Sunday. All of Sunday's action will be broadcast live on the Setanta satellite TV channel and Carrera Cup highlights will be shown on ITV1 in the near future (times to be confirmed).
