2002 Race Reports

Sumpter shines in Michelin Porsche Cup and FIA GT Debut.

Michelin Porsche Cup was the way forward for Paragon for 2002 and being the support race for the Britsh Touring Car Championship made it that bit more special.  In Paragon's distinctive racing colours and backed by Ultrafilter International the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car was soon to be one of the front runners in this challening and competive racing series.

Blasting the car to pole, Sumpter soon came to grips with the new car with two wins in the season opener at Brands Hatch.

With six podium finishes out of eleven races Mark Sumpter finished a very respectable overall third place in the Championship with some great battles with Phil Hindley, Adrian Slater and Pete Chambers.

Paragon's season finale was their debut in the Paragon backed Team Eurotech Porsche 911 GT3RS. Racing in the penultimate race of the Championship at Donnington Park, Mark Sumpter was partnered by Experienced Porsche racer  and Team Eurotech boss Mike Jordan.  With the opportunity to test the water into GT racing this was to be the way forward for Sumpter and the Paragon team for their 2003 racing calender.

With 31 cars starting this three hour long race it was to prove to be fiercly competitive. With a puncture early on in the race and some repairs to loose bodywork caused by the car being hit from behind, the team still managed eighth position and it gave them a great amount of confidence for next seasons championship opener in Barcelona.
